SARS-Cov-2 virus detection kit developed based on Realtime RT-PCR technology (WHO recommended in the production of test kits) on the basis of primers, probes designed and adapted based on the genes and important gene regions of the isolated virus. in Vietnam (the research team has sequenced).

According to the scientists who used the material for the development of the kit, it was discovered that RNA samples were extracted from SARS-Cov-2 virus. pathogenic to Vietnamese patients provided by the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

The gene regions were cloned from the RNA of SARS-Cov-2 virus to serve as a model for research and provided sequences for the design of primers and probes; RNA samples of a human respiratory disease virus are provided by Central Military 108 Hospital and Military Preventive Medicine Institute.

SARS-Cov-2 virus detection kit has been tested at the Institute of Biotechnology. After the time of checking and testing on the afternoon of March 2, 2020, the Kit was recognized the external test results by the Institute of Military Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Defense.

Previously, with the complicated movements of the disease caused by the Covid-19 virus, right from the beginning of the outbreak, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology asked the scientists to focus on studying this disease. . Proposals of the Academy of Sciences focus on 4 main directions:

– Search and screen for natural compounds with antiviral activity to treat infected people.

In specific, practical and urgent conditions, the Academy has decided to prioritize 2 urgent tasks, including:

– Sequencing of the SARS-Cov-2 virus genome causing illness in Vietnamese patients

– Developing and manufacturing SARS-Cov-2 virus detection kit
