TikToker turns the iBook G3 into a versatile case for iPad

TikToker Billy Skipper Hughes (@skipperfilms) recently posted a video “transforming” an Apple iBook G3 computer (launched in 1999) into a versatile case for iPad, integrating many more features Other features such as a physical keyboard, wireless charging for Apple Watch and an Apple Pencil slot.

This TikToker said he took advantage of an iBook G3 that was no longer working, took out all the internal components, and used the chassis of this machine to make a case for the iPad. By combining 3D printing technology, Billy was able to create additional components for the case, including a component to hold the keyboard, Apple Pencil and a place to put a rechargeable battery pack. The connecting wires are cleverly hidden right inside the body.

The screen part of the iBook G3 will be completely replaced by an iPad, the iPad’s charging port will connect to where the old G3’s charging port is located. The backup battery placed inside the body can charge the iPad and even the Apple Watch, which can be recharged using the USB-C port.

When finished, the iPad fits inside the iBook G3 case, working with the keyboard / trackpad in a completely normal way.
