In the context of the NFT craze exploding around the world, Ghozali (22 years old), now living on Java island (Indonesia) came up with a bold idea: NFT turned nearly 1,000 selfie photos of himself. , which is captured continuously every day from 2017 to 2021, then posted for sale on OpenSea – the most popular NFT items exchange today.

Worth mentioning, Ghozali’s “selfie” photos are nothing special, if not artistic. In all of the nearly 1000 photos, all this guy does is simply look directly into the camera lens placed in front of his PC, with a truly… lifeless expression! On January 9, Ghozali posted the collection for sale for 3 USD per NFT.

“I never thought anyone would want to buy selfies, that’s why I just priced them at $3,” he says.

However, a selfie photo collection called Ghozali Everyday immediately created a fever on OpenSea.

After only a few days, the selling price of each photo in the collection kept increasing, reaching 0.9 ETH ($3,000)/photo. The total transaction volume of the collection as of January 15 reached 324 ETH, equivalent to 1.07 million USD (24.3 billion VND), according to estimates of the OpenSea exchange. This is considered an ‘unbelievable’ number for a series of unimpressive selfies.

Reportedly, the cause behind the explosion of the aforementioned NFT collection was helped by Arnold Poernomo, a famous chef, and Jeffry “Jejouw” Jouw, an Indonesian sportswear entrepreneur. Both of these people have continuously promoted the collection on social networks.

Ghozali himself was also surprised and overwhelmed when the aforementioned selfie photo collection brought a huge amount of money. On Twitter, Ghozali revealed that he only took selfies for a video the Indonesian male student plans to make for his university graduation. Accordingly, all selfies will be closed by a selfie taken during the graduation ceremony.

“Today (I) sold over 230+ selfies. Up until now, I still don’t understand why you guys would want to buy my #NFT photos. But I want to thank you for the 5 years of hard work that went into making it. paid off,” Ghozali wrote on Twitter on January 11.

Also on Twitter, Ghozali also warned collection buyers not to ‘abuse’ the photos of the image.

“You can do anything, like flip photos or whatever, but please don’t abuse my photos. Otherwise my parents will be very disappointed in me,” he said. “I believe in you guys, so please take care of my photos.”
