Testing 17 anti-virus software on Windows: McAfee and Kaspersky “lightest”

Tram Ho

AV-Comparatives recently compared 17 security software solutions for Windows PCs, from internet security suites to regular antivirus programs (including free versions). These software are installed on a “weak” configuration computer, and then compare the performance of the computer when the above programs run in the background, from copying data, creating compressed and unzipped files, installing or removing applications, turn on software, download files from the internet, surf the web, and finally run the PCMark 10 benchmark.

The “weak” configuration here, according to AV-Comparatives, is a computer with an Intel Core i3 CPU, 4GB of RAM and a cheap SSD (not sure of which brand). The installed operating system is 64-Bit Windows 10 1909. Each antivirus software is then scored based on the computer performance when the program runs in the background in four levels: Slow, Mediocre, Fast and Very Fast. Surprisingly, McAfee and Kaspersky are among the top 3 programs that help low-profile Windows 10 PCs run stable and fastest, also leading in the ability to protect computers while still not affecting the performance of the machine. is K7 Total Security of India.

However, as mentioned, this test of AV-Comparatives does not compare the best protection, scanning and elimination of malware on Windows 10 computers. Instead, this test only assesses the impact of such software on computer performance.
