Tesla suspended production in the United States due to Covid-19

According to the latest announcement from Tesla, many of its production plants in the US will be shut down due to the complicated situation of Covid-19.

The company said the New York solar panel plant will also temporarily cease production while the Nevada battery factory will remain operational.

Tesla said that despite taking all the necessary precautions, many suppliers were affected, causing production to stall.

The decision to suspend production at the Fremont plant, California, came as Tesla stepped up production of the Model Y multi-purpose sports car at the plant. Demand for the Model Y is expected to be higher than that of all other Tesla models combined, CEO Elon Musk said.

Tesla’s Fremont factory employs more than 10,000 workers with an annual output of more than 415,000. From March 24, workers were allowed to take leave and receive full pay.

While factories in the US were affected, the Tesla factory in Shanghai, China was reopened with higher capacity before the outbreak in the country. 91% of workers have returned to work since the beginning of March, a company representative said.

American car manufacturers, including Ford Motor, General Motors and Fiat Chrysler Automenses NV, also close factories in the US, as well as factories in Canada and Mexico, to prevent the spread of Corona virus.
