Microsoft went a step further to kill Control Panel

Tram Ho

Tech has known about Microsoft’s plan to gradually ditch Control Panel for a long time, and now it looks like the software giant has finally done so.

More specifically, the most recent Windows 10 feature updates have moved some items in Control Panel to the Settings app, all aimed at providing a modern user experience from one end to the other.

So gradually parts of Control Panel features will move to Settings, and now Microsoft seems ready to move on to the next stage.

According to the revelation, the links to the Control Panel will no longer open to the settings page as before, but actually direct users to the Settings app. Also, third-party apps and shortcuts in File Explorer that previously linked to Control Panel will now also redirect to Settings.

While Control Panel’s death is good news for some, it’s certainly not for others, especially for users who have been used to the tool since Windows 7.

Previously, the Control Panel was one of the important places and summed up all the important settings of the operating system and Windows users. This is also where this is a familiar menu when setting up available features. On the other hand, with Windows 7 now discontinued support, users are slowly switching to Windows 10 so it makes sense to switch to Settings.

The good news is that Microsoft has put in a lot of effort to make the transition as simple as possible, and this is why the Control Panel still exists so far. By redirecting users to the Settings app, the entire transition will take place gradually, although at some point in the future the Control Panel will be completely dead.
