Microsoft Edge adds a kid’s mode, a good idea other web browsers should learn from

Tram Ho

Like Kids Mode of Samsung Galaxy smartphones, Microsoft has also recently added a space for kids in its Microsoft Edge web browser. This mode will help parents better manage their children’s web surfing by blocking bad websites and maximizing privacy settings.

When logged in to this mode, parents will choose their child’s age for the right look, covering 5 to 8 years old and 9 to 12 years old. The biggest difference is that the interface for 9 to 12 year olds will have news sites, but it is also selected by Microsoft to avoid bad news sites. SafeSearch will be activated at the highest level, showing notifications whenever inappropriate words, pictures or videos pop up.

The interface will also change, which according to Microsoft to nurture the creativity of the kids. Switching between Kids Mode and a regular web browser is also very simple, but will also require a password that has been preset by the parent.

Interface Microsoft Edge with Kids Mode

Kids Mode is currently only available on Edge browsers for macOS and Windows, but hopefully in the future more web browsers will follow suit. Safari or Firefox also has a kid mode, but it’s more like a web blocker than a comprehensive solution for kids.
