Key TikTok CEO resigns

According to CNN , Vanessa Pappas – COO and CEO of TikTok – will step down. “Pappas decided to step down to focus on business. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her contributions to TikTok over the years,” said Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok.

Shou Zi Chew said Ms. Vanessa is still attached to the company as a strategic advisor. Before that, the COO and CEO of TikTok had great merit in promoting the company to develop, support and enhance products and marketing campaigns. She also plays a big role in promoting positivity in the content creator community.

Vanessa Pappas has 4 years working at TikTok. She became the interim head of TikTok after Kevin Mayern – a former director at Disney – quit after only 3 months at the top.

The former senior leader of YouTube is highly appreciated for helping TikTok overcome difficulties, amid pressure from the US president (at that time Donald Trump) to ban TikTok. The company is still facing many difficulties.

Earlier, Ms. Pappas representing TikTok answered concerns about US users about the relationship with China. Recently, she limited her activities in public, especially after Shou Zi Chew attended TikTok’s hearing before the US Congress.

According to CNN , Show Zi Chew was questioned by the US legislator for 5 hours. Vanessa Pappas then condemned, opposed the hearing and said that the lawmaker was having xenophobia.

In her resignation letter, Vanessa Pappas expressed: “I am proud to have contributed to building a platform that has a billion users globally. My biggest goal is to build a platform that helps people raise their voices on the Internet.” .
