Jeff Bezos wants to break the bridge to let his yacht pass, people throw rotten eggs in protest

Tram Ho

Although he no longer holds the position of the richest billionaire on the planet, Jeff Bezos still shows his “playability” when he is about to dismantle the Koningshaven (De Hef) bridge in the Netherlands so that his super yacht can move over. De Hef, built in 1927, is a historic site of the city of Rotterdam, in the southwestern Netherlands. And of course, the people here do not support this somewhat “crazy” plan of Jeff Bezos.

Specifically, some residents in Rotterdam held an event on Facebook with the name: “Throwing rotten eggs into Jeff Bezos’ superyacht” to show their opposition. The event’s description reads: ” This is a general encouragement to the whole of Rotterdam, bring a box of rotten eggs and throw them mercilessly at Jeff’s boat as it crosses the De Hef bridge. Rotterdam was built by us from scratch, and we won’t let our icon be destroyed by a world-famous billionaire so easily. We will fight to the end .”

The De Hef/Koningshaven bridge will be dismantled for Jeff Bezos’ yacht to cross in June.

As of the time of writing, this event has received more than 6,000 attention, and 1600 of them have decided to participate in sinking Jeff Bezos’ yacht in the sea of rotten eggs on June 1.

According to some local news agencies, this superyacht is worth about 500 million USD and is currently being assembled by Oceano company in Alblasserdam, Netherlands. Once completed, it will have a length of about 417 feet (more than 127 meters) and will pass through Rotterdam to reach the great sea.

The problem was that the mast of this boat was too high, surpassing the 131 feet (almost 40 meters) height of the De Hef bridge. That’s why Jeff Bezos wants to remove this bridge, even though before, after the renovation in 2017, the Rotterdam city council decided not to dismantle it again.

On February 3, Ahmed Aboutaleb, mayor of Rotterdam, confirmed that the city council has not made any official decision regarding this case. If the De Hef Bridge is actually removed, Jeff Bezos or Oceano will have to bear all the costs involved.
