Galaxy Z Fold3 is the first foldable smartphone to support S Pen, but as you may already know, not any S Pen can be used with this new product. Samsung has explained why the Galaxy Z Fold3 is only compatible with the S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro, but what you may not know is that using any other type of S Pen with the Galaxy Z Fold3 could damage it. machine screen.
The reason is that the pointed tip design of a regular S Pen can cause permanent physical damage to the Galaxy Z Fold3’s folding screen, and even a new protective film that’s 80% more durable won’t help.
To address this inherent durability issue of folding screens, Samsung has developed a special pen tip for the S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro. These new tips are softer than those on the regular S Pen, but more importantly, they have a retractable mechanism to prevent damage to the screen when pressure is applied.
No other S Pen model has these features, and without them, the S Pen would damage the device’s folding screen. In other words, even if third-party programmers could tweak the software and make the Galaxy Z Fold3 work with any S Pen, it would be a dangerous combination.
If you’re planning to buy the Galaxy Z Fold3 and have a regular S Pen, don’t try to use it with your newly purchased super smartphone, unless you want to risk permanent hardware damage.
You can buy the S Pen Fold Edition (without the case) from Samsung for $49.99 and/or the S Pen Pro for $99.99. Or you can pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold3 and get a Note Pack that includes the S Pen, but this may vary by region.
