Do not “work from home”, Apple employees ask to quit

As COVID-19 vaccinations are underway around the world, Apple is encouraging its employees to return to the office to work. However, not everyone seems ready for this, with some employees saying they will leave the company if they are refused to work remotely.

Currently, Apple is implementing a “hybrid” working model. Specifically, employees will be required to be at the office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. If desired, they can work remotely on Wednesdays and Fridays. Some key groups will have to work four to five days a week.

According to a new report from The Verge , when some employees asked Apple management to work from home full-time, they were turned down. In a Slack channel with more than 6,000 Apple employees, some said they would leave Apple if the company didn’t change its mind.

“While Apple previously discouraged employees from working from home, there are some exceptions to this rule. Now, employees say even those exceptions are denied. In a Slack channel that trains employees to advocate for remote work, about 10 people said they had resigned due to lack of demand,” the report by The Verge reads.

Some employees currently working from home under the Americans with Disabilities Act can continue to do so. However, if Apple decides to return to the office permanently, it will also be required to be present. It is known that for some special cases, Apple has asked employees to provide medical records to determine if they are eligible to work from home. This makes some people feel “uncomfortable”.

Last month, an internal survey conducted by Apple employees found that at least 90% of employees want the flexibility to work remotely, but the company believes in-person work is essential and expects everyone to do so. who soon returned to the office. The employees even sent a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook asking for the change, but these requests were all denied.
