Opera recently announced that it will support full emoji web addresses “to bring a new level of creativity to the internet” . This integration is part of a partnership with Yat, a company that sells URLs with emoji strings in them.

“It’s been almost 30 years since the world wide web went public and there hasn’t been much innovation in web linking: people still include .com in their URLs,” said Jorgen Arnesen, executive vice president of mobile at Opera, said.

Yat pages are unique domains created when someone purchases a string of emojis (also called Yat). Owners of a Yat can create an NFT based on their emoji string, and the company plans to let users connect their Yat to electronic payments.

According to the company, musicians were among the early adopters of Yat; for example, singer Kesha’s Yat page is the Rainbow Rocket Alien emoji, which will redirect to Kesha’s World website.

With Yat integration, Opera becomes the first browser to simplify accessing Yat-based websites by eliminating the need to enter the “y.at” prefix in the address bar as found in browsers. else (the full Yat URL looks like this: https://y.at/?✨ ).

Yat co-founder Naveen Jain said Yat emoji domains allow for user personalization, which can give creators, artists and others even more visibility on the internet.
