Xiaomi has patented one-sided scrolling smartphone
- Tram Ho
Up to now, Xiaomi has launched a lot of products in many different segments, from cheap, mid-range to flagship models with high-end configuration. However, the Chinese manufacturer has so far not launched any smartphone with a true folding screen.
Although technically, Xiaomi has Mi MIX Alpha but it is a completely different device, using a curved screen rather than folded or rolled. Therefore, there are many fans still looking forward to seeing a folding screen smartphone from Xiaomi. Today, this device has just unexpectedly appeared in … a new patent revealed by LetsGoDigital .
In mid-2018, Xiaomi filed a design patent for a phone with a scrolling screen to the left. This patent has just been approved and published on December 6, 2019.
The device in Xiaomi's patent has a thick left edge, which houses dual cameras on the front and back, as well as a portion of the screen on the inside. When rolled up, it looks quite similar to a normal smartphone, but when opened, the device will have a large display area with the size of a tablet.
If you remember, last month, LG also patented a similar smartphone, but the screen was rolled from the sides rather than from one side like the device in Xiaomi's patent.
Of course, all we see is a patent right now and whether or not the manufacturer will actually apply it is a completely different matter. A good example is LG's patented roll-up smartphone for a long time, but we don't have any leaked information yet.
