StoreDot – Israel’s battery startup has just announced the successful production of a cylindrical battery cell 4680, similar to the battery Tesla announced at the Battery Day event last year. The advantage of this type of battery is that it can be fully charged in 10 minutes.

Last year, Tesla announced the 4680 battery cell, which it said could help reduce the cost of batteries by 50%. 4680 is to talk about the size of the battery at 46 x 80 mm, much larger than the cylindrical battery cells that have appeared before. Tesla says it has solved the heat problems that arise from such a large battery.

The American electric vehicle maker also announced plans to produce its own battery cells, but is also willing to work with existing battery partners to commercialize the 4680 battery. LG Energy Solutions, CALT, Samsung SDI and a few others Another manufacturer has announced a trial production program of this battery and is under contract with Tesla.

Now, StoreDot has announced the same 4680 battery and is confident about the charging technology. The company has long focused on improving the charging capabilities of electric cars and has shown impressive demos. For example, they have a battery that can charge an electric scooter in 5 minutes.

With the new 4680 battery prototype, StoreDot says it can charge in 10 minutes. Professor Doron Myesdorf – CEO of StoreDot said: “Achieving the goal of super-fast charging of cylindrical batteries in 10 minutes has always been on StoreDot’s roadmap since day one.

After 3 years of development and testing, we have made significant achievements. We can provide electric vehicle manufacturers with batteries that use this latest technology, helping to overcome EV owners’ biggest hurdles: range and charging capacity.”

The company said it will mass produce these batteries by 2024.

StoreDot is one of VinFast’s partners, as announced by the Vietnamese automaker. Accordingly, VinFast is looking to put into use its “super battery” technology that can charge 80% of electric vehicles in just 4-5 minutes.
