Vietnam smartphone market share in Q3 / 2020: Vsmart went flat with 9%, Xiaomi increased sharply to 12% and opened the official Mi Store in Hanoi.

According to the latest market data, Canalys has just announced, the top 5 smartphone brands in Vietnam in the third quarter of 2020, besides Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, also have Vsmart, VIVO.

In detail, Samsung leads with the market share of 33%, down 6% year-on-year. Oppo also dropped 21% and ranked 2nd with 15% market share. Vsmart went sideways at 9%.

It is known that Vsmart is a Vietnamese phone brand, co-operated by Vingroup Group with Pininfarina. In the framework of the agreement, the two sides will jointly build a distinctive design language for the new generation of VinSmart smartphones – VinSmart Research and Production Joint Stock Company. The body shape, display method as well as the operating language of Vsmart phones will all be “revolutionized” through this agreement.

VinSmart products dominated mainly in the popular smartphone segment with prices from 2 million back, with weekly market share up to 75-77%. Not stopping in the domestic market, VinSmart has an ambition to encroach on the international pitch with the key market, the US. In the period from August to September 2020, VinSmart mobilizes 3,000 billion dong of bonds, and the amount of money recovered from the divestment of VinHomes is expected to support VinSmart to fulfill its great ambitions in the coming time.

In contrast, Xiaomi increased strongly by 114% compared to Q3 2019 to 12%, VIVO also increased by 75% to 9%. According to Canalys, in Southeast Asia, Samsung ranked first with 20% market share, VIVO ranked second with 19%, Oppo reached 18%, Xiaomi increased to 14% to 18% in the third quarter of 2020.

As for Xiaomi, which has been present since 2017, Xiaomi is increasingly strengthening its brand awareness in Vietnam. In which, Xiaomi chose Digiworld (DGW) as the exclusive distributor of its products.

Recently, the company also cooperated with DGW to open an official authorized Mi Store in Hanoi. Listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Xiaomi is introduced as an internet company with smart phones and hardware connected by the Internet of Things (IoT) platform at its core.
