Users must “ask” to turn off ads on Facebook and Instagram

Meta – which owns Facebook and Instagram – has been fined around $423 million by the Data Protection Commission of Ireland, the EU’s privacy regulator. This penalty targets how Meta uses user-collected data.

Immediately after the fine was issued, Meta threatened to remove all 2 applications from the app market on Android and iOS. But in practice, this will be unlikely because the owners of Meta will still need users to use these two operating systems.

Due to Meta’s breach of EU privacy, EU citizens may be allowed to disable ad tracking for Facebook and Instagram accounts.

However, Meta still retains the power to “evaluate and decide whether to make changes” and users will have to submit a form, as a “approval” to opt-out of ad tracking.

Even so, users have the option to turn off tracking on these social platforms. It will essentially restrict Facebook or Instagram from using data about them, collected from their activity outside of the platform, for advertising purposes.

Currently, users have the option to turn off the form of following brands on the social platforms Facebook and Instagram. Essentially, the above action will restrict Facebook or Instagram from using data about them, collected from their activity outside of the platform, for advertising purposes.
