Apple’s wearable device business is the fastest growing division in the third quarter of the fiscal year (from April to June). Revenue from wearable devices has increased by 48.3% over the previous year, reaching 5.53 billion USD. The main driver of this growth is the Apple Watch. This smart watch is not only considered as a tool to measure a user’s physical activity, but is also a good device for monitoring user health (eg, measuring heart rate, electrocardiogram).

A trusted TF International analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, predicts Apple Watch Series 5 will be introduced at the iPhone 2019 launch event (scheduled to take place on September 10). He also said that the device will basically look like the current model with an edge-to-edge AMOLED screen (produced by Apple’s longtime partner, Japan Display).

Information from WatchOS 6 beta has revealed that there will be a Apple Watch Series 5 version with titanium case and a ceramic-shell version. The new Apple Watch is still available with 2 40mm and 44mm case sizes. Ceramic has been used on both Series 2 and Series 3 models but has not been continued on Series 4.

Today, we have a first look at Apple Watch Series 5 through the famous leaked Slashleaks image. Based on the information displayed on the device’s screen, we see it running WatchOS 6 and bringing the model number to A2157. Model A2157 had previously been found in the Eurasian Economic Commission file along with some unreleased iPhone models.

We can see that the new Apple Watch supports a gesture navigation system through a patent application filed by the US tech giant. The illustrations attached to the profile show that by swiping the wrist, users can scroll through the message or clench their hands to answer the phone call. Meanwhile, the sleep monitoring feature users expect is likely to appear only in the model released next year.

WatchOS 6 will soon be released and is expected to include an independent App Store for Apple Watch and certain applications such as computers, Audiobooks, and Voice Memos that will run directly from the device. Users will be able to view their fitness data for a longer period of time by using the new “Trends” feature. In addition, battery life will be improved along with the appearance of many new “watch faces”.

Apple Watch is Apple’s pioneering product in health-related initiatives. This week, it was reported that some senior personnel had left Apple’s medical research division. There seems to be a split between the members of this group because some people want Apple to stop creating healthy people tracking features and start focusing on the issues that day health care systems now face, including treatments for chronic diseases, medical equipment, remote treatment and health payments. However, it is undeniable that other smartwatch manufacturers are trying to catch up with Apple. Samsung recently added an electrocardiogram (ECG) for Galaxy Watch Active 2 to compete with Apple Watch.
