Curious to know what was going on, antonyjeweet tried to “dissect” the RTX 3090 to find the cause. Unexpectedly, he found inside a… finger wrap, which was placed right on the memory chips. Surely, an employee on NVIDIA’s production line was distracted at work and forgot it while assembling.

After removing this finger wrap, the temperature of the RTX 3090 immediately returned to normal. After 1.5 hours of gaming, the memory temperature is about 85 degrees Celsius, 25 degrees lower than before.

As a rule, arbitrarily opening electronic components will cause users to lose warranty benefits. This is also what NVIDIA told the owner of this RTX 3090 at the beginning.
