Overcoming representatives from nearly 60 countries, Tran Hoang Anh (22 years old, from Hai Phong) scored Microsoft Excel 2013, the third highest in the world and won a bronze medal.

One month after being named at the awards night of the World Office Informatics Championship held in New York (USA), Tran Hoang Anh, a senior student at Hanoi Foreign Trade University, has not forgotten the feeling. contact on the podium to receive the award. “I was so surprised and cried because I never thought I would get a medal in such a competitive competition,” Hoang Anh said.

Recalling in 2015, when he first arrived in Hanoi from Hanoi to study Finance and Banking at Foreign Trade University, Hoang Anh learned about the competition thanks to the announcement of the school’s team selection. Candidates can register the content of Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint.

Because high school was exposed to PowerPoint through many presentations, it was told that this was the easiest subject, Hoang Anh chose PowerPoint to take the exam but did not pass the national qualifier. In the second year of university, Hoang Anh changed his direction to register for the Word exam with the goal of “learning not only the prize but also more knowledge in other subjects”. Once again, I left empty handed.

In the third year, Hoang Anh decided to take the Excel exam, partly because he wanted to become more proficient in other content in the Microsoft Office suite, partly because he was confident after studying Technology Application in Banking under the school curriculum. This subject gives me access to some advanced Excel functions for working applications.

At the third time, he won the national consolation prize, so Hoang Anh decided to continue the last exam when he was old enough. He spent his last year in college to complete the classroom program, while forging his skills and knowledge to improve Excel’s performance at the Office IT Championship.

Hoang Anh does not set a goal of how much time to practice each day but integrates skills training through practical activities. In addition to self-study at home and in school, boys accumulate many skills during an internship at an auditing company – where Excel is used a lot.

Four months to teach Excel to a community project, Hoang Anh was able to relearn the background knowledge. Practicing in a real environment helps boys memorize knowledge longer and deeper. When using an incomprehensible Excel function, Hoang Anh again searches to get as deep as possible into that function.

“The practice with me is not so difficult, but the difficulty is to overcome embarrassment. Exam up to four times, the contestants around are mostly high school students and only took the exam for two years, perhaps I am the most shy . ”, Hoang Anh laughed. Every time a little afraid, former high school student Tran Phu (Hai Phong) reminded himself of enough age to participate, why not take the opportunity again.

In the end, Hoang Anh won the first prize in the country and was the Ambassador of Vietnam to take part in the international Excel exam in 2019. During more than three months of waiting for the international exam, Hoang Anh was further trained by the team coaches organized by the organizers. Invite, learn some advanced functions that can appear in the exam, the custom help the chart more beautiful, detailed and easier to understand, how to handle the test in the best way.

Sharing about the test in the international round, Hoang Anh said that the organizers gave a data file with instructions to create an identical data file using Excel tool. Time to do exam 50 minutes.

For the national qualifying exam, I encountered many traps but did not get much points and did not affect the test process. In the international round, the whole test has only one trap but the candidate cannot solve will lose many points, and not enough time to do the following sections.

Hoang Anh also caught this trap, so she worried and broke when she reached the third highest score in the world.

Mr. Doan Hong Nam, Head of Vietnam delegation attended the world finals, sharing because each exam content (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) has only one medal set (one gold, one silver and one bronze) so the medal plate Hoang Anh’s bronze medal is very valuable, helping Vietnam to be one of the 10 strongest teams in the world and bringing the total number of Vietnam medals won in 10 years of competition to 11.

Along with the bronze medal in the World Office Informatics Office, Hoang Anh has just received a notice that the average grade of the entire course is 3.79 / 4. The hometown of Hai Phong hopes the results in the international arena will help him prove his ability and score points in the eyes of the employer.
