According to Ice Universe’s sources, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and ZTE will all be launching smartphones with hidden cameras under the screen this year. The source also revealed that, Samsung will launch this new technology on a foldable smartphone, this could be the next version of the Galaxy Z Fold or Galaxy Z Flip series.

Xiaomi also plans to launch this new technology on Mi MIX 4. As for Oppo, it will also launch its own folding screen smartphone and feature a selfie camera hidden under the screen. ZTE is said to be equipped with this technology on the Axon 30 Pro 5G.

ZTE is the first smartphone maker to use hidden camera technology under the screen. The Axon 20 smartphone, launched earlier this year, has a 32MP selfie camera hidden below the AMOLED screen. This technology is very impressive, but the selfie camera photography experience on the ZTE Axon 20 is disappointing, the image lacks sharpness and the colors are also heavily skewed.

The purpose of smartphone manufacturers when equipped with camera technology hidden under the screen is to improve the design and towards smartphones with the most perfect full-screen screens. If this technology can be improved, helping to achieve higher quality selfie photos, maybe designs like rabbit ears or punch-hole cameras will soon die.
