According to a Nikkei Asia report, Samsung is developing a smartphone with a double-fold screen. This smartphone uses up to 2 folding hinges, which can be released later this year. Thus, Samsung will have up to 3 lines of folding screen smartphones with different mechanisms.

Nikkei said that the design of this smartphone is still being tested and perfected by Samsung. However, we do know that its display will have a more standard 16: 9 or 18: 9 aspect ratio, making it easier for apps to be compatible than the Galaxy Z Fold’s 25: 9 display.

In the past, we have also seen Xiaomi’s 2-hinge-screen smartphone design, but the Chinese manufacturer is expected to launch its first folding screen smartphone with a design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold. 2. Huawei also launched the Mate X2 with a similar design.

Maybe Samsung wants to continue to experiment and come up with new foldable smartphone designs, instead of using the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 as a standard for all folding screen smartphones from now on.

This year, Samsung will skip a Galaxy Note version. This could also be a gamble for Samsung, to bet on its foldable smartphone line. The Korean giant wants to check whether Note users are ready to switch to foldable smartphones.

A smartphone that folds 2 times also means that the main screen size will be much larger, completely able to reach the size of a tablet. We have seen tablet hybrid laptops, maybe in the future there will also be tablet hybrid smartphones.
