Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor: 4nm process, 20% more powerful, 5G 10Gb/s support, will equip Galaxy S22

Qualcomm just introduced a high-end processor called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, at the company’s annual Snapdragon Technology Summit. This will be the processor equipped for flagship smartphones in 2022.
Inheriting the Snapdragon 888 launched last year, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the first processor to carry Qualcomm’s new naming scheme. Previously, many leaked information suggested that this processor will be called Snapdragon 898.
Qualcomm says Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has 20% more CPU efficiency and 30% more power efficiency than the previous generation. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is Qualcomm’s first processor to use Arm’s latest Armv9 architecture.
The new 8-core Kryo CPU will feature one Cortex-X2 main core clocked at 3.0Ghz, three high-performance Cortex-A710 2.5Ghz cores, and four Cortex-A510 1.8Ghz power-efficient cores. This new processor is manufactured on the 4nm process, a big upgrade from the 5nm process of the Snapdragon 888.
The new Adreno GPU is claimed by Qualcomm to have 30% higher graphics performance and 25% more power efficiency than the Adreno GPU of the Snapdragon 888 processor. In addition, Qualcomm also equips a control panel New GPU, help customize games when running on smartphones.
Qualcomm also introduced the latest Snapdragon X65 modem chip inside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. This is Qualcomm’s 4th generation 5G modem chip, compatible with existing mmWave and sub-6GHz bands, adding support for high speed speeds. speeds up to 10Gb/s.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth LE Audio and Snapdragon Sound audio technology that enables AptX Lossless wireless audio transmission.
Another focus of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is the high-end camera-enabled features, which Qualcomm calls “Snapdragon Sight”. For the first time ever, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 upscales everything to an 18-bit system (up from 14-bit on Snapdragon 888). That means 4,096 times more camera data.
Spectra ISP system supports capturing 240 12MP photos in 1 second. Qualcomm also added support for 8K video recording with HDR 10 Plus and 18-bit RAW image capture. In addition, the new processor also improves a series of AI features to support low-light photography.
In terms of artificial intelligence, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 features Qualcomm’s latest Hexagon processor, which is 4 times faster than its predecessor. Finally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor continues to be upgraded with security features, supporting e-wallets.
The first flagship Android smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip will be launched in early 2022.
