It should be noted, these are not fully-featured versions of Photoshop and Illustrator – far less even. You can navigate layers, leave annotations and comments, and make basic edits using tools like eraser, spot healing brush, and selection. But to edit more complex things, you still have to open the app.

“We don’t bring all the features in one day, but we really want to unlock all the best basic editing available in the browser today , said Scott Belsky, product manager at Adobe , said. Belsky describes the web version of Photoshop as offering “light editing” that works with “real PSD” files.

Photoshop is rolling out a web beta starting today to Adobe Creative Cloud users. To access the web version (after the beta program is available) you need to go to your Creative Cloud file, then there will be an Open in Photoshop on the web beta option when you select an existing Photoshop file. The document will be opened on http://photoshop.adobe.com/ and the editing interface will appear on the web.

Illustrator for the web beta is invite-only, accepting registrations starting today.
