According to Business Insider, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is pushing plans to turn his company into a more “efficient” organization. The second wave of mass layoffs at Meta is expected next week, pushing thousands of employees into unemployment.

According to a source close to the company, Meta employees believe that the morning of March 15 will be the time when they will be notified of this. Previously, a companywide meeting was scheduled for early last week but was moved to March 16. That led people to speculate that the company would announce staff cuts during the plenary meeting.

During Meta’s first layoff last November, terminated employees abruptly lost access to computers and work tools, and Meta held a companywide meeting on March 10. the next day.

“It’s going to be a bloodbath,” said one person familiar with the situation about Meta’s second round of layoffs. According to two others, most of the people fired this time around are performance reviewers and middle managers. Business Insider adds that Meta’s latest performance review just ended this week.

Last month, Mark Zuckerberg declared 2023 a “effective year” for Meta and that the company will continue to take some measures to cut spending amid the current difficult context.

Meta’s first wave of layoffs took many employees by surprise, with 11,000 people (or 13% of Meta’s workforce) terminated.

After the layoff, the number of Meta employees will return to nearly the level of 2021 when the company is still actively recruiting to meet temporary needs.

For their part, to date, company representatives have not responded to any requests for comment on the upcoming layoffs.

Also last month, Mark Zuckerberg said he didn’t want Meta to become a company of too many managers. Two weeks ago, the company began to eliminate some managers or push them down to lower positions.

Efforts to further cut costs at Meta, which has been facing pressure from investors regarding building the metaverse, have been going on for months.

The company has withdrawn employee perks and benefits and is in the process of consolidating several offices, including combining Instagram’s San Francisco office with Facebook’s main office there.

Mark Zuckerberg has recently been optimistic about efforts to make Meta more “efficient”. The owner of Meta shared that he was surprised that things were getting better as the company started taking measures to cut costs on a large scale.

“What makes you a better company over time is being able to get more done because you’re more efficient. We’re in a different environment now, where a lot of the work we do. We should be more focused on efficiency than before. I think it’s going to be a much more enjoyable place for people to work because they can get more done,” said Mark Zuckerberg.
