According to the Guardian newspaper, scientists released the latest image of the largest planet in the solar system on August 22.

The James Webb Space Telescope took this image in July, capturing unprecedented views of Jupiter’s northern and southern lights as well as polar haze.

The image shows numerous small storms surrounding Jupiter’s Great Red Spot. The Great Red Spot in the latest pictures is a prominent white spot. It is an anticyclonic storm that has lasted 340 years and is large enough to swallow the Earth.

The image is particularly impressive because it shows faint rings around the planet, as well as two small moons against the glittering background of galaxies.

“We’ve never seen Jupiter like this. It’s all unbelievable. To be honest, we didn’t really expect the results to be this good,” said planetary astronomer Imke de Pater of the University of California, Berkeley, said.

According to the team, the infrared images taken by Webb have been artificially colored with blues, whites, greens, yellows and oranges to bring out Jupiter’s features.

NASA and the European Space Agency launched Webb, the “successor” of the Hubble space telescope, into space late last year. The $10 billion device has been helping scientists observe the universe since the summer.

Scientists hope to see the dawn of the universe with Webb, the time when stars and galaxies first formed 13.7 billion years ago. Webb is 1.6 million kilometers from Earth.
