Talking to Dan Tri online newspaper, a representative of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam said that the Ministry of Transport has just approved the proposal to use a level 2 electronic identification account on the VNeID app of passengers to check in for flights.

At the check-in counter, security control door and when exiting the aircraft door (boarding), passengers themselves open a level 2 electronic identification account on their phone for the airline staff to check visually. (with the naked eye). The content of the check includes comparing photos of guests on the account with real people and comparing with flight information.

Particularly at the security control gate, staff can identify unusual and suspicious cases… to request careful electronic authentication according to the instructions of the Ministry of Public Security (scan the QR code to check).

On May 31, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam sent a guide to airlines and airports for implementation from June 1. However, the time of official application depends on the preparation work of the airports.

According to the leader of Noi Bai airport, the airport has not yet officially applied the new process. He said the airports are meeting with the Civil Aviation Administration to agree on the time of deployment.

It is expected that Noi Bai airport will arrange a separate area at the terminal for the police force to activate level 2 electronic identification accounts for passengers in need.

Due to concerns about problems and errors arising from new technology, the airport representative recommends that passengers still carry their citizen IDs and can use their electronic identification accounts in the spirit of “experience”.
