How to set the password to be safe if you don’t want to be ‘cracked’ by AI after just a minute?

Artificial intelligence has certainly changed our lives in many ways, providing us with innovative solutions like Bing Chat and Bard. However, great power comes with great responsibility, and there is a dark side to this technology that we must be aware of.

One worrying aspect of AI is its potential for misuse in password cracking. A new study by cybersecurity firm Home Security Heroes highlights the alarming rate at which AI can crack passwords.

Home Security Heroes recently published a study that delved into the world of AI-powered password cracking, focusing on a tool called PassGAN (password generator adversary network). Researchers used PassGAN to analyze a list of more than 15 million passwords, revealing some startling findings.

According to research, 51% of popular passwords can be cracked in less than a minute, 65% in less than an hour, 71% in less than a day, and 81% in less than a month.

Research shows that the majority of passwords with six characters or less are cracked almost instantly. Research shows that passwords with at least 18 characters are considered secure against tools like PassGAN. Accordingly, these tools will take up to a minimum of ten months to crack an 18-character password consisting mainly of sequences of numbers.

However, this level of security may not last long as AI technology continues to evolve. To protect your account from such password cracking tools, Home Security Heroes recommends using a password of at least 15 characters, containing at least two letters, numbers and symbols.

Users also need to avoid predictable patterns (e.g. “1234”), and regularly changing your password is important. Also, don’t use the same password on multiple accounts.

While maintaining strong passwords can seem like a burden, it’s a small price to pay to protect your data. To help you remember complex passwords, consider using a password manager. As AI technology evolves, it is essential to stay one step ahead of potential threats and ensure the security of your online accounts.
