High-end smartphone segment: Huawei accounts for 90% of the Chinese market, Apple leads the world

Counterpoint Research has just released a report related to the high-end smartphone segment (priced at over $ 400) in Q1 2020. Accordingly, sales of high-end smartphones have dropped 13% over the same period last year, although still account for 22% of global smartphone sales. Revenue from the high-end smartphone segment accounts for 57% of the total market.

As usual, Apple is still the leader in this segment, accounting for 57% of the global market share. Followed by Samsung and Huawei with 19% and 12% of market share respectively. These three smartphone manufacturers alone account for 88% of the global premium smartphone segment.

Interestingly, Oppo and Xiaomi also rose and took part in the high-end smartphone segment, taking fourth and fifth respectively. Oppo impressed with a 67% growth, thanks to the Reno 3 smartphone. Xiaomi grew 10% thanks to Mi 10 and Mi Note 10.

In each region, Apple and Samsung occupy the top two positions in all markets except China. In China alone, Huawei is completely dominating with 90% of the high-end smartphone market.

Considering each smartphone model, Apple occupies the top 4 positions: iPhone 11 (30%), iPhone 11 Pro Max (9%), iPhone 11 Pro (7%) and iPhone XR (6%). Fifth place goes to Huawei’s Mate 30 Pro 5G.
