Foxconn aggressively recruits workers to produce iPhone 13

Tram Ho

The world’s largest iPhone factory is located in Zhengzhou city. According to SCMP, Foxconn is offering cash incentives for workers, especially skilled workers, to sign contracts to participate in production. This shows China’s central role in Foxconn’s global supply chain.

Foxconn said that the iPhone mechanical components division – iPEBG – will offer a maximum bonus of 8,000 yuan (nearly 28.5 million dong) to former workers who want to return to the Zhengzhou line during the peak season, up from 5,500 yuan a month ago and 5,000 yuan in 2020. This is the highest bonus since the factory started operating in 2010.

Meanwhile, new workers recruited through referrals will be rewarded with 7,000 yuan, up from 4,500 yuan in April. Referrals also receive 1,000 yuan for each success. New employees who apply for jobs on their own will be rewarded with 7,500 yuan. To receive the bonus, they must work for iPEBG for 4 months and commit to stay until the end of the peak season.

At the iDPBG department, which is responsible for assembling iPhones, both old and new employees are rewarded with 600 yuan a month – equivalent to 5,400 yuan for nine months, not including a base salary of 2,100 yuan.

The generous bonus shows that Foxconn has carefully prepared for this year’s iPhone. Typically, Apple partners only increase workers’ bonuses during the peak season for the latest iPhone production. For example, in August and September 2020, the bonus for new workers at iDPBG department through referral is as high as 9,000 yuan.

According to analyst Dan Ives, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 13 in the third week of September. He estimates the Asian supply chain will produce 90 to 100 million units to meet the first order for the iPhone 13. , compared to 80 million of the iPhone 12 in the same period last year. Still according to Mr. Ives, Apple aims to produce 130 to 150 million iPhones in the second half of this year.
