In December, BKAV will launch a series of 4 new Bphones in the A series, namely A40, A50, A60 and A85 5G. These will be phones in the low-cost and mid-range segments, in which the A85 5G model will support 5G network technology.

Some of the information we have collected shows that the Bphone A40 model will be equipped with MediaTek Helio G85 chip or MediaTek Helio P22 chip. Recently, in a livestream sharing about new products, BKAV CEO Nguyen Tu Quang officially confirmed that Bphone A40, A50 and A60 will use MediaTek Helio G85 chip. This chip was announced in mid-2020 and has appeared on a number of product lines such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 9, Realme C25s, Tecno Pova 2 …

The use of chips from MediaTek makes the three A-series Bphones the first BKAV devices that do not use Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. All previous versions of Bphone used different Qualcomm chip lines, in addition, many of its other products such as AirB headsets or AI View cameras were also built based on technology from the US corporation.

In fact, BKAV used to consider Bphone’s use of Qualcomm chips as an advantage to “submerge” other competitors. On Bphone B86’s official website, BKAV writes: “Bphone B86 is upgraded with 1.5 times higher performance with Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chip from the most advanced American chip manufacturer that always outperforms other Chinese chip lines. like MediaTek, Kirin or Exynos of Korea, especially in terms of AI support, graphics, energy saving and durability.” Or in 2018, BKAV’s communications director once stated that Bphone 3 would not use Chinese chips to reduce costs.

The biggest reason for BKAV to switch its product line to MediaTek chips is the price. Bphone A series is positioned by BKAV as a low-cost, high-configuration device to attract ordinary consumers. Therefore, BKAV is forced to accept some sacrifices to get a good price.

In fact, compared to B-series Bphones in the high-end segment, cheap A-series Bphones are not only cut in terms of configuration or features, but also in the design and production process. Also in the above livestream, Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang also confirmed that Bphone A will be based on the ODM model, which means ordering another unit to design and produce.

“For the best price product, this time we choose the ODM method. We will work with a number of other manufacturers to put together designs to have large quantities and optimal prices,” said Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang in livestream session.
