China’s OLED display manufacturer launches folding screen smartphone to challenge Samsung

China’s Visionox is becoming one of the world’s largest manufacturers of OLED screens for smartphones. Visionox has manufactured AMOLED displays for both the Mi Note 10 and the Mi MIX Alpha, gaining market share previously held by Samsung.

Now, China’s OLED display manufacturer continues to challenge Samsung, with the launch of a foldable smartphone. Visionox’s smartphone prototype has a vertical folding screen, similar to the recent Motorola Razr 2019, and is also the folding screen design that Samsung is trying to pursue.

Visionox’s smartphone has a waterdrop screen, quite similar to a regular smartphone when it is in the state of opening the whole screen. However, it can be folded vertically, using a special hinge mechanism, which reduces the size of the smartphone to just half.

Visionox’s folding screen also doesn’t have a fold in the middle, like the Motorola Razr. However, this smartphone does not have an external screen, so you will not be able to use it when the screen is closed.

However, this is only the first prototype, it is not clear when this smartphone will be sold. But it shows Chinese manufacturer Visionox is looking to challenge the Samsung giant, like a statement that ‘we can also produce foldable OLED screens’.

The current folding smartphone market is still quite small, but promises to grow stronger in the next few years. Samsung almost dominates this market, so the presence of competitors like Visionox will make the war more interesting.
