Billionaires Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg have invested $ 3.5 million in the “artificial breast milk” startup.

Tram Ho

Startup Biomilq researched and created an artificial breast milk, replacing infant formula with the same protein components as natural breast milk and making it easier for children to digest. Biomilq received a $ 3.5 million investment from a hedge fund founded by billionaire Bill Gates, with billionaires Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg.

Biomilq has devised a method to produce artificial breast milk from human mammary tissue cells. These cells are being cultured on a commercial scale. Thanks to that, the production process does not create greenhouse gas emissions that affect the environment.

According to statistics, about 10% of the global dairy industry (the industry that generates large amounts of greenhouse gases) comes from producing infant formula. However, Biomilq’s artificial breastmilk production process could completely change this. And that’s why both Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg are interested.

Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a US $ 1 billion investment fund, founded by billionaire Bill Gates to find solutions and prevent climate change impacts from carbon emissions. In addition to billionaire Bill Gates, this fund also has the participation of Amazon CEO – Jeff Bezos, Virgin CEO – Richard Branson and Facebook CEO – Mark Zuckerberg.

In February earlier this year, Biomilq published the first evidence of its successful research on artificial breast milk. Biomilq demonstrated that they can produce casein and lactose, the two main proteins of breast milk.

“We are the first company that can produce and combine the main components of breast milk, in a closed, sterile process that does not pollute the environment,” said Startup. In addition to reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions emitted during production, artificial breast milk products also provide a more beneficial alternative to infant formula.

However, it is not clear when Biomilq’s artificial breast milk will be available on the market. Before that, Biomilq will need to get a license from the US Food and Drug Administration FDA.
