Apple’s Vision Pro received many compliments and criticisms

After nearly a decade of research and development, “Apple defect” has launched the Vision Pro product at the WWDC 2023 event that just took place in the US.

Forbes considers this an important milestone for Apple in the field of personal computing, following the success of previous great products such as the Apple II computer, Macbook, iPod, iPhone and iPad.

“Vision Pro can be considered as the next breakthrough device since the iPad tablet in 2010” – American Magazine commented.

What’s special about Vision Pro?

Vision Pro smart glasses are Apple’s first hardware device in the field of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).

The product uses an aluminum frame, glass surface with many powerful equipment such as M2, R1 chip, dozens of sensors and cameras.

Each side of the glasses is a 23 million pixel Micro LED screen, a density higher than even a 4K TV. The three-layer lens system effectively enhances the three-dimensional image, the outer surface can display the human eye simulating the effect of seeing through glasses.

The big difference compared to other virtual reality glasses is that Vision Pro creates the feeling of sitting directly in the room, still seeing people in and out, surrounding objects and interacting comfortably. Users can also customize the display of the movie screen in complete darkness, or like watching in the middle of a large meadow or in front of a romantic beach. All switching between virtual and augmented reality is through the Digital Crown on the glasses.

Features such as viewing photos, videos, calling FaceTime work similarly on iPhone and iPad. Thanks to the ability to calibrate AR, users can “open multiple application windows”.

Vision Pro weighs less than 500 grams, feels comfortable during use. In particular, the glasses do not cause dizziness, unlike when using some VR glasses currently on the market. Detachable battery connects to glasses via cable, can be placed in pants pocket.

Although it is considered by some experts to be “the most advanced technology product ever created”, which will take the field of “entertainment and communication to the next level”, Vision Pro still receives mixed reviews. .

Why is Vision Pro “breakthrough but difficult to popularize”?

Although Apple CEO (CEO) Tim Cook has a lot of expectations on “Future Products”, many analysts believe that Vision Pro smart glasses are difficult to conquer users.

“Vision Pro has no new ideas and still has minus points such as limited battery life (about two hours), a design that is not compact enough that can make users confused when deciding to buy ” – the Financial Times commented .

The Washington Post also assessed: “The important question is why do you want to wear Vision Pro regularly? Why do you use Vision Pro instead of using a smartphone, tablet, laptop or TV remote ?”.

Business Insider said that “Vision Pro is not a device to brag like other Apple products. Apple is a master at turning technical devices into fashion icons or things that users crave. want to be expressed. As for Vision Pro, this element has not yet been brought .”

At the launch ceremony, CEO Tim Cook revealed that each Vision Pro device costs $ 3,500 (nearly VND 85 million), which will be sold by Apple in early 2024.

Professor Scott Galloway of New York University – USA said that when users own an expensive iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods Max, they often show that they are successful, rich and tech-savvy. If you wear Vision Pro glasses in public, “looks silly” or feels like the person is “disconnected from the real world”.

” Wearing the Vision Pro shows that you love games and Apple devices so intensely that you don’t care about anything else. There’s a market for that, but it’s a lot smaller than what the iPhone makes. Professor Galloway added.

In addition, some argue that $ 3,500 is a price that is difficult to reach for most users who want to own Vision Pro. In fact, at the product introduction, Apple also aimed at developers and businesses rather than general customers.

What does Mark Zuckerberg say about Apple’s Vision Pro glasses?

Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, thinks that Vision Pro glasses do not bring any major breakthroughs in technology.

“Apple has finally announced their new smart glasses. From what I’ve seen at first, I’d say the good news is that they don’t have any magical solutions that break free from the laws of physics. that our team never thought of ” ” – The Verge website quotes billionaire Mark Zuckerberg’s speech in front of all Meta employees on June 8 (US time).

The Facebook co-founder praised the Vision Pro for having a higher screen resolution along with a range of assistive technologies. However, this also makes the price of the product 7 times more expensive than the Quest 3 glasses that Meta announced earlier this month.

“Meta’s goals for the metaverse are fundamentally social, while Vision Pro seems more personal. Apple’s approach may be a vision of the future of computing, but it’s not. what I want, “- Mr. Zuckerberg concluded.
