Apple’s virtual reality glasses have serious downsides

Apple launched the Vision Pro mixed reality glasses at a recent event, responding to the public’s longing for an innovative, futuristic device that promises to change the face of the technology industry.

Not up to expectations, Vision Pro brings a series of unique features, an experience far superior to previous virtual reality products of the same type. However, besides the expensive price, up to $ 3,500, Apple’s products also have another drawback that is difficult to create a fever. It’s lacking in aesthetics.

Regardless of the features when used, the appearance of Apple products is always the first thing the public notices. Insider describes Apple’s mixed-reality glasses as being like a nerd’s thick glasses and making the wearer look “not cool”.

Apple is often a master at turning technology products into fashion icons that many people aspire to. But it seems Vision Pro did not follow in that footsteps.

There has long been a notion that owning an expensive iPhone represents success, wealth, and tech savvy. On the other hand, holding an Android phone in your hand can elicit judgments, as Android devices are generally cheaper.

That’s why the iPhone became the most profitable technology device in history and helped Apple’s market valuation skyrocket to $2.8 trillion.

The same thing happens when a person walks through the airport holding a MacBook, wearing AirPods Max headphones and a high-end Apple Watch in hand. They look successful, flashy, and exude business.

But imagine someone wearing Pro Vision glasses at an airport. They will look a little funny or as if isolated from reality.

Wearing Apple glasses doesn’t make you trendy. Instead, you’re like a gamer and obsessed with Apple devices, so much so that you no longer want to communicate with other people.

Among the Vision Pro images that Apple shared during the event, there is an image of a woman using these glasses on her head with an unrefined look. This has left some people feeling unimpressed about the US company’s bulky mixed reality glasses.

Of course, it cannot be said that the Vision Pro is a complete failure or not worth buying. Other Apple devices have also failed until better in the next launches, like AirPods or Apple Watch.

This is just Apple’s first glasses. The company’s goal after this is certainly to pack the power of the Vision Pro into a much nicer, thinner pair of glasses.

If any tech company could make such glasses, it would still be Apple. However, Mark Gurman, a leading Apple reporter, recently remarked that:

” Apple’s dream of delivering a lightweight pair of AR glasses that people can wear every day, every hour will be for many years to come .”

For now, users have to accept that the Vision Pro has promising features, but it is an expensive, bulky and unsightly pair of glasses.

What does Vision Pro experience have?

Lauren Goode, writer of WIRED shared some experiences when using Vision Pro.

Although the battery has been integrated outside, the headset itself still feels heavy. The Vision Pro is also unlike most other modern Apple products in one important way: Compactness.

” The glasses sit on the face and shield the eyes, a vital sense to one’s life ,” commented Goode.

“The virtual reality experience of the glasses is great, but it requires you to let go of your vigilance and self-control. Even Apple can’t fix this fundamental problem.”

Every successful Apple product of the past two decades has hidden itself in our lives in some way – iPhone in pocket, iPad in backpack, Apple Watch on wrist, and AirPods in ear.

Wearing the Vision Pro for hours on end raises questions about immersion in the virtual world, as well as what it means to live in the real world.

“My forehead cools when I remove the Vision Pro after about 30 minutes, a testament to Apple’s refined design. But my face also breathes a sigh of relief, just like after using other virtual reality screens. The atmosphere here is real life .”
