However, according to a new leak on the social network Weibo, Xiaomi may still be going in this direction. During an internal company meeting, Xiaomi revealed one such device, which could be called Mi Band X.

According to a presentation slide, the Mi Band X won’t have any straps, presumably because there won’t be room for such a detail. The flexible display will take over the role of the strap, and the magnetic clasp will be used instead of conventional buckles. The leaked photo appears to show the presenter wearing such a device, but it is difficult to discern from a distance.

But, like any unique new design or innovation, the biggest question for this type of device will be “Why design it like that?”.

For example, users won’t be able to view any content past a certain length along their wrist, rendering half of the screen “wrapable” to 360 degrees practically useless. Not to mention other issues related to comfort and safety with a frequently bumped position like the wrist.
