Xiaomi Mi 10 will use LPDDR5 RAM

Tram Ho

A few days ago, Xiaomi revealed that its upcoming Mi 10 flagship line will be equipped with the latest LPDDR5 RAM. Micron has now confirmed this information, and said it has begun mass production of the first batch of LPDDR5 RAM chips for the high-end smartphone market, including the Mi 10.

However, immediately after the announcement, many netizens were wondering whether Xiaomi plans to use Samsung's LPDDR5 memory chip. This is a completely baseless question, as most upcoming flagships like the Galaxy S20 series, or Nubia's Red Magic 5G flagship model are expected to use the new generation of memory chips from Samsung.

Yesterday, Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun, confirmed that the upcoming Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro duo will use both LPDDR5 memory chips from Samsung and Micron. LPDDR5 memory chips of these two manufacturers have data transfer rates up to 6.4Gbps, twice as fast as LPDDR4 and 20% faster than LPDDR4x RAM.

Not only that, LPDDR5 RAM also consumes 20-30% less power than the previous generation. According to Micron, the processing speed and application performance of LPDRR5 are much faster than LPDDR4x, in addition, devices using LPDDR5 RAM can also extend battery life by 5-10%.

So far, Xiaomi has never hesitated to equip high RAM capacity for its flagship models. Therefore, if Samsung provides LPDDR5 memory chip for Mi 10, we cannot rule out the possibility that the most advanced variant in this product line is Mi 10 Pro 5G that will have LPDDR5 RAM up to 16GB manufactured by Samsung.
