Xiaomi launches smart door lock that supports 3D face recognition

Besides producing smartphones, Xiaomi also has a diverse ecosystem with many extremely unique products. Recently, the Chinese manufacturer has just launched a new smart door lock model and the strange thing is that this product is equipped with a feature like most smartphones today, which is face unlock.

Xiaomi Smart Door Lock X uses a 3D structured light face recognition module. The system consists of a dot projector, infrared lamp, RGB camera, light sensor and an infrared camera.

In particular, it can distinguish both images, mask models and real people’s faces. Basically, the face unlock feature on this smart door lock model works quite similar to Apple’s Face ID.

In addition to face unlock, Smart Door Lock X also supports seven other unlocking methods, including fingerprint, password and NFC. The door will automatically lock after being closed, and also give an alert if a stranger is not on the identification list standing in front of the door.

Xiaomi Smart Door Lock X comes with a 6250mAh battery, which not only works with the MIJIA app, but is also compatible with Apple HomeKit. Through the app, the user can configure the door lock and review the unlocking history, thereby checking who unlocked the door and the corresponding timestamp.

Currently, Xiaomi has not announced the specific price of Smart Door Lock X. The product is expected to be open for pre-order on October 12.
