Xiaomi begins to develop electric cars

According to sources from China, citing investors close to CEO Lei Jun, Xiaomi is rapidly implementing its own electric car development project. This project will be officially kicked off in the next one to two months.

At the end of February, CEO Lei Jun met with Mr. Li Bin (founder of Weilai Automobile), to discuss car manufacturing issues. In addition, Vice President Wang Chuan is also looking for new manpower in this field, including technology research and manufacturing process.

However, not long ago, Xiaomi released an official statement, denying previous internet rumors about its own electric car development plan. The statement said: “Xiaomi has always been interested in the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem, continuously evaluating and researching development trends. However, Xiaomi’s research in the electric vehicle sector has not yet reached the official stage of the project ”.

Chances are Xiaomi does not want to disclose any information, before the project goes into operation or certain successes. Like Apple, never admitted to developing its own electric car project.
