This vulnerability named BlueKeep affects older versions of Windows and may pave the way for a similar malware disaster like WannaCry.

Microsoft and the US National Security Agency (NSA) are calling on Windows users to update their operating systems after experts discover a serious vulnerability in older Windows versions. Named BlueKeep, this vulnerability could pave the way for a similar malware disaster in WannaCry 2017.

According to NSA, BlueKeep can spread on the internet without user interaction like clicking on links containing malicious code. It affects Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and 2008.

BlueKeep is so dangerous that Microsoft has released a bug fix update for Windows XP, the Windows version they stopped supporting since 2014.

On Tuesday, Microsoft issued a warning to users and estimated that nearly 1 million computers are at risk of being affected by BlueKeep. The software giant urged people to quickly update the patch.

About the dangers of BlueKeep, NSA writes:

“This is the kind of vulnerability that cyber criminals often report through special software that attacks the vulnerability. For example, this vulnerability can be exploited to organize DDoS attacks. Remote exploit code for this vulnerability will soon be shared widely. The NSA is concerned that cybercriminals may use this vulnerability in extortion codes and exploits that contain other exploit codes, increasing the likelihood of defeating computers that have not been patched. ”

A DDoS attack can crash computers and computer networks of both individuals, businesses and large organizations as well as eliminate the ability to control the infrastructure of businesses and organizations.

Hopefully important agencies and organizations have collaborated with Microsoft and NSA to patch the BlueKeep vulnerability.

For users running older versions of Windows, this is a better time to upgrade to Windows 10. If you like the look and feel of Windows XP, you can customize Windows 10 to look like Windows XP.
