Windows 11 also has settings that slow down your home Internet, turn them off to optimize web surfing speed

Since the version of Windows 10, Microsoft has begun to “interfere” with the speed of users’ internet connection, by equipping and activating some features about background applications and system updates. Until Windows 11, this situation continues. Therefore, sometimes you will feel that your computer’s internet connection is quite slow, causing a lot of discomfort during use.

Fortunately, changing settings that affect Internet speed in Windows 11 can be changed, and you can completely intervene to improve. It is as follows.

Disable Delivery Optimization

Similar to Windows 10, the version of Windows 11 also allows you to download data from other PCs, but if you don’t use this option often, it is likely that this Delivery Optimization feature is using the internet without you do not even know. So disabling this feature is what you should do.

To disable the Delivery Optimization feature, open Settings and click Windows Update.

Click on Advanced options.

Click on the Delivery Optimization setting.

Switch to OFF in the line Allow downloads from other PCs if you do not use this feature.

However, if you find this feature necessary, you can limit how much internet bandwidth this feature can use by selecting Advanced Options. At Download settings you can adjust the internet bandwidth usage that this feature is suitable for. Once you’re satisfied with the changes, close the Settings app.

Turn off software and applications that are using the “underground” internet

If you have a lot of apps running and don’t use some, you should close those unused apps. In this way, you can help the applications you are using make better use of bandwidth.

Open Task Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting Task Manager

Click the Processes tab, in the Network section, see which applications are using your internet connection. Close any software or application that you are not using by right-clicking on the application and selecting End task.

Note only close applications that you do not use, should not close system applications, applications that are downloading.

Disable the Metered connection feature

Windows 11 has an internet usage limit feature called Metered connection, which allows you to limit internet data usage. By default, this feature will be turned off, but if you accidentally turn it on, it will make you feel that the internet speed on your PC or laptop is noticeably slower. So disabling this feature is what you should do.

To proceed to disable the Metered connection feature, open Settings and click on Network & Internet.

Click the Properties section of the Internet connection you are using.

Switch to OFF in the Metered connection line.

Change DNS for internet connection in use

If none of the above methods help you reduce lag when using the internet, try changing your DNS that can help solve this problem.

Open Settings and go to Network & Internet, click on the connection network you are using, then click Edit in the DNS server assignment line. Select Manual in the window that appears, then switch to ON in the IPV4 line.

Enter DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 respectively and then click Save to save.
