Why should a programmer know and use Linux?
Go straight to the topic, the first reason is freedom. Why, Linux is an open source operating system. Up there you can do everything freely, open source. You can modify kernel, compile the source code to produce a new Distro from the old source code without any legal constraints.
Linux runs very light and smooth. It installs a full linux version with GUI only from about 500MB. This includes a lot of things like office apps, some games, Firefox browsers, File Manager, Torrent Downloader ……. And quite a few other applications. Fully serve the needs of office computing on a daily basis and improve it a little. For me Linux Ubuntu is the most preferred choice, Ubuntu is based on Debian, the GUI and the packages developed and customized by the community have made a difference. Once installed and booted into the system, ignore the hard disk space occupied because I think it is not very important, only a few GB
I remember that in the summer of 9th grade, I was in the 10th grade, it was really a great time, I was rewarded by my parents for a Core2dual ram 2GB desktop computer, a 320GB hard drive with a Philips HD screen button touch. I chirped all day and night with that machine. Not because it was my first time using a computer, but because it was my first computer, a gift for the HSG prize my parents gave me. And so every Sunday my father had to take me out to Bao Loc City to reinstall the computer. At that time, I did not understand why the gap was a bit broken because Windows could not boot into the system. But through that, I discovered Windows HDH installers and then learned about the existence of linux.
The third reason is high compatibility and flexibility. You can install linux for a machine that has been produced for a long time and the system still receives the device driver in the most complete way. Almost after installing Linux I never have to install any additional driver packages for the system. In addition to flexibility, I rate linux as first-class. You can burn the Linux installer to a CD / DVD or write it to USB and take it to another computer to use anytime you want.

And finally the difference. Between thousands of computers (I bet the number is even more if you need a real statistics or survey) using a popular operating system is Windows while you're running Linux, you're different. Well I'm sure, if you're in Vietnam, you're really different. During high school all the machines I saw ran Windows NT. In the article I do not want to mention MacOS because its popularity and user segment is too different.
For a programmer it is great, the IDE and the compiler are almost all on Linux, there is no Visual Studio part because Linux is always a thorn in Microsoft's eyes, no one is raising a thorn to harm I grew up. Recently, when the trend of Cloud became popular, Microsoft proved not to hate Linux in the past. In that positive move, they released an IDE for linux, I myself tried it but did not want used for being familiar with NetBean or SubLime.
As Microsoft calls it catch up because they don't care if users use their HDH at the moment, they are interested in whether users use their cloud or not. It is likely to leave out a large number of users because the cloud platform is so old, most servers prefer Linux. Leading to an inevitable consequence of revenue.
People think of Linux poor application. Well, I would like to say that it is wrong and wrong for the present. After a long time using great applications on linux for the daily entertainment areas, focusing on security and returning to Windows I always see the apprehension about the application as well as the freedom. A good thing is that you can use wine to run Windows applications on Linux. Not all of them are fine, some are fine, but that's enough for me.
In short: if you are a programmer, you should use linux, but if you are a normal person, using linux is too great. Linux's freedom and endless goodness are always waiting for you to investigate and destroy.
