The Internet has become a familiar word to people of all ages, crept into every home, becoming an indispensable means of work, daily life and entertainment for millions of people around the world.

However, few of us know the time of its formation, the development process to become the global Internet as it is today. This article takes us back in time to the early days of the Internet.

The Internet that we know and use today is not just the product of one person. Below is a list of people who have helped contribute to and grow the Internet.

The original idea of the formation of the Internet is credited to Leonard Kleinrock after he published his first paper called “Information Flow in Large Communication Nets”. May 31, 1961.

In 1962, JCR Licklider became the first Director of the IPTO and presented his vision of a galactic network. In addition, with those ideas of Licklider and Kleinrock, Robert Taylor gave birth to the idea of the network that later became ARPANET.

The Internet as we know it today began to be developed in the late 1960s in California, USA.

In the summer of 1968, the Network Working Group (NWG) held its first meeting, chaired by Elmer Shapiro, at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI). Other attendees included Steve Carr, Steve Crocker, Jeff Rulifson and Ron Stoughton. During the meeting, the team discussed solving problems related to how the servers communicate with each other.

In December 1968, Elmer Shapiro in association with SRI released a report “A Study of Computer Network Design Parameters”. Building on this work and earlier work by Paul Baran, Thomas Marill and others, Lawrence Roberts and Barry Wessler created the Interface Message Processor (IMP) specifications. . Bolt Beranek and Newman, Inc. (BBN) was subsequently awarded the contract to design and build the IMP subnet.

In July 1969, the University of California, Los Angeles issued a press release introducing the Internet to the public. This was the first time the concept of the Internet was introduced to popular culture.

August 1991, Tim Berners-Lee introduced the WWW to the public and people could start using it on August 23, 1991. Most of us refer to the World Wide Web (WWW) as the “Internet” or a series of web pages connected with links. The Internet standards and technologies used today were developed by hundreds of people, but without the WWW, the Internet would not be as ubiquitous as it is today.
