Which way for Vietnam’s electric motorcycle industry?

Tram Ho

Engine power and mileage are no longer an issue

In those two thousand years, electric motorbikes emerged as a new breeze because of the novel driving feeling and smooth operation. However, the cars at that time were still not popular because the engine was weak and the distance was no more than 50km. Electric motorbikes are still only hanging around in the playground for students and sisters to go to the market.

But the present is different. The Vietnamese market has no shortage of cars with impressive performance. Currently, many models can go up to 200km in just one full charge. In fact, 200km is more than enough for the normal travel needs of ordinary users. In short, the performance of the current electric motorcycle market is enough to compete fairly with petrol cars. What needs to be focused on is improving charging time and fast charging station coverage.

So with the obstacle of battery charging, what should the Vietnamese electric motorcycle industry do?

Shorten charging time

To be fair, electric scooters are now charging much faster than before. All thanks to developments in battery technology. Cheap lead-acid battery cars with poor charging times have been replaced by better, faster lithium ion batteries.

As a result, electric scooters have somewhat reduced charging time. Leading the market today is the Weaver 200 series of Dat Bike with 3 hours of full charge, followed by other models with the corresponding charging time of 4.8 hours, or up to 6 hours…

However, as life develops, user standards do not stand still. Even the number of 3 hours of fast charging has not kept up with user demand. It is better to continue with a gasoline car, it is still more profitable to take 1 minute to pour fuel.

Therefore, upgrading charging time is something no electric car company can ignore.

Fast charging station development

If it’s just a normal commute, just charge it at home. But when expanding the need to go away, travel, finding a place to charge becomes a big concern of users. At this point, the charging station appears as a must-have solution.

In the Vietnamese market, there are already a few businesses investing in charging stations. However, the number of charging stations is still quite modest and there are many shortcomings. If each electric scooter needs to be charged for 3-4 hours to be fully charged, then each charging station can only serve a certain number of vehicles per day. Not to mention, when the number of charging stations is developed more, it will be a dilemma for the national grid.

Speaking of fast charging stations, in Vietnam currently only Dat Bike chooses to go in this direction. This company has just launched the Dat Charge fast charging station with announced parameters “Charging 20 minutes to 100km”.

Dat Bike’s Dat Charge electric motorbike fast charging station

20 minutes is a temporary number that is considered okay, does not make users uncomfortable when waiting. However, currently only Dat Bike’s Weaver 200 can use this charging station. Dat Bike made a wise move when choosing the MNC Lithium-ion battery with extremely high charging efficiency on its bikes from the very beginning. This step has expanded the opportunity to develop fast charging later without technological obstacles.
