The delegation was led by Mr. Marc E.Knapper, US Ambassador to Vietnam; led by Mr. Ted Osius, former US Ambassador to Vietnam, Chairman of the USABC Council and Mr. Michael Michalak, Vice President of USABC. On the afternoon of March 21, 2023, the delegation had a working session with the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

At the meeting, representatives of large US corporations such as Meta, SpaceX, VISA, AES, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Bell, Pfizer, Apple, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo… … expressed their desire to establish or open expanding investment and business activities in the Vietnamese market.

Notably, SpaceX, the company of billionaire Elon Musk, is looking for opportunities to develop the satellite Internet service market in Vietnam and other countries in the region.

Starlink is a project of space technology company SpaceX (founded by technology billionaire Elon Musk), using satellites launched into orbit to cover the Internet globally.

To provide Internet services to the world, SpaceX has launched into low-Earth orbit more than 2,500 satellites. The number of Starlink satellites that SpaceX will launch into orbit will increase in the future, forming a network that covers the earth.

However, this will make astronauts more “headaches” when concerned about the pollution of the sky caused by too many satellites of Elon Musk. To date, about 12,000 of those satellites have been approved.

Starlink’s satellites will be designed to broadcast broadband Internet from space to Earth. SpaceX plans to launch the second-generation Starlink satellite before the end of the year to help ease the service’s stress.

A special feature of Starlink (satellite Internet project) is that it can provide Internet anywhere in the world, even in remote and isolated areas, areas that are difficult to access to the Internet or mobile networks. often.

SpaceX’s ambition is that the Starlink project can cover the Internet globally and achieve a maximum speed of up to 1Gbps (equivalent to 125MB/s).

Currently, Starlink is providing services in 50 different countries, of which there are only 3 countries in Asia, including Japan, Iran and the Philippines.

In February 203, the Philippines became the first Southeast Asian country to use SpaceX’s Starlink satellite Internet service.

SpaceX has been in discussions with the Philippine government over the years to get a license to provide Starlink services in the country.

By the end of 2022, the National Telecommunications Commission of the Philippines has granted approval to allow SpaceX to provide services in the Philippines and until now this service has officially been covered.

In Vietnam, VNPT is the only unit that owns a satellite communication network. This form of connection uses VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) satellite stations with antenna diameters from 1.2 m to 3 m and Vinasat broadband satellite communication system to provide services. telecommunications over IP protocol.

According to the Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2020 – 2030, the global satellite Internet market size is valued at US$2.93 billion by 2020 and is expected to reach $18.59 billion in 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.4% from 2021 – 2030.

The report said, “Covid-19 has spurred increased use of satellite Internet in government agencies and medical facilities for instant and rapid communication response. The fields of fire, police, etc., with the need for rapid communication, have also fueled the growth of the satellite Internet market.
