There are many reasons why Chrome can crash or freeze on MacOS. Sometimes the browser crashes right after the user clicks on the icon, sometimes the tabs in the browser do not work.
Google Chrome is also very RAM-intensive, so if your Mac computer has weak RAM, Chrome will easily crash. If your computer is inherently powerful, the problem may be from Chrome itself.
The following are the most common ways to handle this situation.

1. Clear browsing data on Mac
If Chrome doesn't load the tab or webpage, you should try deleting the web data.
Step 1: Open Chrome on the Mac, then click the 3 dot button in the upper right corner of the window to open the menu
Step 2: Select Settings , then scroll down and click on Advanced
Step 3: Find and click on the Clear Browsing Data line
Step 4: Select All time and then click Clear data . This will be almost like factory reset your Chrome and return all personal preferences to default
Step 5: Check if Chrome still has the original error
2. Check the network on macOS
Sometimes problematic Wi-Fi can also cause Chrome crashes. Please check the Wi-Fi connection, restart the Wi-Fi player or try using another network to check.
3. Exit Chrome and restart the computer.
While opening Chrome, click the Apple logo on the toolbar, then click Force Quit .
If the mouse pointer is unresponsive, you can use the key combination Command + Option + Escap e. In the dialog that appears, click Google Chrome and then click Force Quit .
After exiting Chrome, restart the Mac.
4. Check out the extensions on Chrome
Sometimes installing too many extensions or when something goes wrong will cause Chrome to crash.
To check, go to Chrome in incognito mode and then turn on each extension again to see if any of them are failing.
In the Chrome window, click the 3-dot button in the upper right corner of the window to open the menu, then click New Incognito Window.
Still in this menu, click More Tools → Extensions to be taken to the list of extensions.
Incognito mode will automatically turn off all these utilities, so now you try to turn on each one. If one of them after being re-enabled causes Chrome to crash, uninstall that extension.
5. Check for Chrome updates on Mac
Sometimes using an older version will result in a bug, so make sure your device is using the latest version of Chrome.
Click on the 3 dots to open the menu, then select Help → About Google Chrome . If a new update is available, click to get it updated.
Alternatively, you can try uninstalling your existing Chrome, then downloading the new version from the Chrome homepage and reinstalling.
6. Turn off hardware acceleration in Google Chrome
There are some users who recommend turning off hardware acceleration in Chrome if the browser crashes continuously.
In Chrome, go to Settings menu → Advanced.
Turn off the switch to gray in Use hardware acceleration when available .
