In today’s wearable and health monitoring market, Apple emerges as the market leader with Apple Watch sales continuing to increase. At this point many people ask, is Google’s Wear OS wearables really lost? The answer is that it’s not too late for Wear OS to beat watchOS.

Compared to the same period last year, the smartwatch market has grown by 35%. Analyst firm Counterpoint Research doesn’t pinpoint the cause, but it’s easy to see the trend of world events over those 12 months. People have become more conscious of their personal health, and smartwatches equipped with abnormal heart rhythm or arrhythmia detection and blood oxygen levels are especially popular among consumers.

Counterpoint Research focuses on the brands and platforms that are leading the market. Not surprisingly, the Apple Watch is still leading the race, even increasing its market share by 3%. Although Samsung’s smartwatch sales have increased, Samsung’s overall market share is still significantly lost to Apple. Huawei is still in second place over Samsung but sales are showing signs of decline.

WatchOS market share is growing rapidly, despite competition from many operating systems for wearable devices, including Wear OS

In terms of platform, Wear OS hardly appears on many smartwatches. But that may soon change. Counterpoint Research pointed out that the announcement that Wear OS will be integrated on Samsung’s Tizen OS smartwatches promises to help open up a bright future for Wear OS.

Especially when Samsung’s smartwatch products will increase users’ interest in Wear OS. Samsung can also benefit from this as the future Galaxy Watch series will be able to access more Android smartphones.

Google certainly has a lot of “hidden” cards waiting for a duel with Apple. One of the cards that can be mentioned is Fitbit, a company specializing in manufacturing wearables to support sports that was recently acquired by Google.

Next are health-tracking wearables that use a separate custom operating system. If Google can bring Wear OS to these devices, the market share of the operating system for this smartwatch will soon improve and be able to compete with watchOS in the near future.
