Warning: ”Don’t rush to make money from AI chatbot like ChatGPT”

Tram Ho

At a conference on artificial intelligence (AI) in Mountain View, California (USA), the “father of the Internet” Vinton Cerf had a message for executives looking to do business and make money from chatbots. AI: “Don’t”. He said that investors should not pour money into conversational AI (chat AI) just because “it’s a hot topic”, especially with ChatGPT becoming more and more popular.

I hope you will consider the ethical issue here ,” said Mr. Cerf, “ Everybody is talking about ChatGPT and a similar Google chatbot. What can easily be seen is that these chatbots don’t always work the way we want them to .”

His warning comes as big tech companies like Google, Meta and Microsoft work to stay competitive in conversational AI products, while rapidly improving common mistakes.

John Hennessy, President of Alphabet, also shared that it will be a long time before these systems become widely used because even before testing, they have too many inaccuracies in accuracy and are too “toxic”.

Vinton Cerf served as Vice President and Director of Internet Propaganda at Google since 2005. He is known as one of the “fathers” of the Internet with the invention of Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol (TCP/ IP) – base for current internet.

ChatGPT is really cool, although it doesn’t always work properly ,” he commented on ChatGPT.

If you are thinking that you can sell conversational AI systems to investors because this is such a hot topic, I advise against it. Think thoroughly. It is true that we cannot predict what will happen with these technologies. Honestly, the majority of the problem is human. That’s why people haven’t changed in 400 years ,” Vinton Cerf shared at the conference.

Investors will only do what works for them, he said, and people need to be careful about how technologies like artificial intelligence are used.

Cerf shares her experience using ChatGPT when asking the chatbot to attach an emoji at the end of each sentence. But unfortunately this request was not fulfilled. The “father” of the Internet said the tool apologized but did not change its behavior. “ They are far from being aware ,” he added.

According to Cerf, there is a big gap between what the technology will do and what it actually does. “ This is the problem. We can hardly tell the difference between an eloquently worded answer and a precise one .”

Technically, I think engineers like me have a responsibility to make these technologies less harmful. Currently, they are spreading misinformation, making up stories, giving wrong advice, and possibly even having medical consequences. Therefore, the most important thing is to find ways to minimize the potential dangers AI chatbots can bring ”, asserts Vinton Cerf.
