Vietnamese students program 3rd in the world, more than the US and India

Students at the University of Natural Sciences – VNU ranked third in the world in programming, behind Russia and China – according to survey results from HackerRank.

More than 5,500 students from 126 universities around the world participate in the HackerRank online event . Each school has at least 10 students participating in solving difficult codes. Scores are calculated based on the student's ability and the number of participants.

The University of Natural Sciences – VNU HCM is ranked 3rd among 50 universities with the highest number of programmers on HackerRank.

The results were surprising when two Russian universities (ITMO University) and the University of Natural Sciences – VNU HCM were not included in the list of the top 50 universities in the world by US News & World, but still occupied 1st and 3rd place.

Meanwhile, Berkeley, which is affiliated with the University of California (USA), is reputedly ranked only 4. The second place belongs to China's Sun Yat-sen Memorial Midle School.

Although only ranked the fourth highest, but the US has 8 universities reaching the top 50 in HackerRank's ranking. India is shocked to have 24 schools on this list.

HackerRank is a website that offers exercises for technology students to improve their programming skills. The service currently has one million members worldwide, mostly students and application developers. Results from this page are for reference.
