Vietnamese student wins international coding contest

A Vietnamese team won first prize and two team prizes at the Digital Campus WeCode 2015 coding contest held in Malaysia on December 6.

Vu Duy Hieu wins first prize

Vu Duy Hieu, an eighth grader from FPT Secondary School, won the Executive Creative Game Award, the first prize in the executive category. The team prize in the 6-9 year old category was given to Nguyen Ha My and Pham Phuong Linh from Vinschool Primary School. Meanwhile the prize in the 10-12 age group category was given to Nguyen Quang Dang and Le Gia Bao from FPT Secondary School.

Hieu said he thought he lost because his name was called last. “After my name came up for the first prize, I couldn’t believe it,” he said.

Vietnamese team

Digital Campus WeCode is organised by Youth On Unity for students from Southeast Asian countries. This year, 136 teams from four Southeast Asian countries participated in the contest themed around cyber security. Vietnamese team participated with 14 members.

The contest has three age categories for 6 to 9 year olds, 10 to 12 years old and for 13 to 18 years old. Contestants were asked to develop a programme within one to two hours.
