Most Vietnamese people between the age of 18 and 35 use smartphones and their time for surfing internet is three times more than that of the people in other Southeast Asian countries, said FPT Group’s Chairman Truong Gia Binh at the seminar to launch the World Bank’s “World Development Report 2016: Digital Dividends” report on March 14.

This means that Vietnamese young people are spending 5.5 hours per day for “surfing the net”.

However, Binh did not deny the proud achievement of a part of Vietnamese youth in the use of internet.

“Many young Vietnamese are talented and well known in the IT world such as Ha Dong, the creator of Flappy Bird game with a daily income of $50,000 or the creator of the Money Lover app, with 2 million users,” Binh stressed.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam agreed with Binh, saying that the downside of the digital technology is not due to the technology itself, but the users of technology.

“The Government of Vietnam is always aware of the importance and emphasizes on the development of digital technology,” he stressed.

According to statistics in 2015 by Facebook, the world’s largest social network, there are 30 million Facebook users in Vietnam.

Of these, 27 million users were active on mobile devices. This figure is 13% higher than the world average use of social networks daily.

Also, the Vietnamese people spent about 2.5 hours a day on Facebook, more than 1 hour longer than other social networks, twice the time they spent on watching television and many times more than the time for reading.

Vietnamese users mainly used Facebook to chat with friends or visit the Facebook page of a certain brand (such as fashion, beauty, food, electronics, travel incentives …)
